Rendering of the new Louis Armstrong International Airport.
The brand new $950 million Louis Armstrong International Airport is under construction, and demand is so strong that the city is already considering building another terminal.
The airport is currently driving piles for the $950 million North Terminal Project and related facilities for the brand new airport, which will eventually include two new concourses, 30 airline gates, and a new $17 million hotel.
According to WDSU, airport officials have seen so much demand in air traffic that they are already considering building another, new, $100 million terminal.
“Our growth is exceeding the passenger forecast, therefore we are exploring a design modification,” Deputy Director Michelle Wilcut told WDSU in an email. The new terminal would include less than ten new gates, and likely come as a change order to the current plans.
Joint venture Hunt Gibbs Boh Metro is the general contractor, and the project is expected to be complete by October 2018.
