The Neighborhood Conservation District Advisory Committee unanimously approved a demolition request for the old, abandoned hotel at 2820 Tulane Avenue on Monday (January 4).

The property owner, Bahram Khoobehi, was represented by Sam Bailey of Louisiana Demolition, Inc., according to a report by our friends at Mid-City Messenger.  Bailey mentioned that Khoobehi had plans to build a new retail development at the site, but that “the architect of the project had not finished the construction plans.”

The property sits on 32,579 square feet of land.

The building was severely damaged by fire caused by one of the hotel’s residents who was cooking on a hot plate.   The fire destroyed the roof and most of the third and second floor, according to an article on LouisianaCommercialRealty.com.

The current owner purchased the former Americas Best Value Inn in March 2015 for $1,060,000.  Check out the reviews on TripAdvisor – pretty hilarious.
