Harrah’s New Orleans Casino has proposed a new, 340-room luxury hotel on top of the current entrance to its casino at the foot of Canal Street.
The 24 story hotel is part of a $350 million renovation plan, which also includes new dining and entertainment options and a new theater. No gaming will be part of the expansion.
The new hotel would include 20,000 square feet of event space, a rooftop pool and bar, a gym and spa, and other updates to the casino including new outdoor dining, a “Best of NOLA” food hall concept that would feature well-known New Orleans restaurants, and the new Fillmore Theater, a 35,000-square-foot music venue that will be managed by Live Nation. The plan also includes the addition of a new canopy over Fulton Street.
Harrah’s claims that the upgrades will generate $13 million in new payments to the state, $8 million to the city, would generate 600 construction jobs and, once complete, add 500 new full-time jobs.
The plan still needs to be filed and approved by the state legislature. According to other news outlets, it appears to have tacit local and state support.
Harrah’s already purchases nearly 27,000 rooms per year for its guests at other hotels.
