After almost nine years closed since Hurricane Katrina, Martin Wine Cellar broke ground this week on a brand new Baronne Street location.

Earlier this year Martin Wine Cellar owner Cedric Martin came out with the news that the famed Baronne Street location would be re-opening by September of 2014.

The single-story, 14,025 square foot retail store at 3827 Baronne Street will include an upscale grocery, 120 seat deli as well as the wine warehouse.

“I am very excited to rebuild our store where it all began in 1946. Martin’s on Baronne will be bigger and better than it was before, but still have the same friendly staff and large selection. This is a great day for the city, the neighborhood, our employees, our customers and my family. We look forward to greeting all of our customers and thank them for their patience and loyalty” said Cedric Martin in a prepared statement.

Waggoner & Ball is the architect and F.H. Meyers Construction is the general contractor.
