Ochsner Medical Center plans to build a new hospital on a vacant site in old Jefferson, according to a story by Nola.com.

Oschner has filed for a zoning change to build a five-story rehabilitation hospital at the former Jefferson Plaza shopping center on Jefferson Highway.

The site itself was purchased by the Feil Organization last year for $5.5 million.  The Feil Organization, led by developer Jeffrey Feil, is a real estate investor and developer in New York with significant holdings throughout the greater New Orleans area, including Lakeside Shopping Center, the Costco store land, the Lakeway Tower complex, and a plethora of other office and multi-family buildings around the city.

Oschner is seeking to change the zoning from C-2 commercial to H-2, a medical district for hospitals.
