Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Louisiana announced partnership plans to build a new facility at the Children’s Hospital Uptown Campus.

The partnership will expand housing for families of children being treated at Childrens. Ronald McDonald House is currently in a 15 bed facility in Mid-City, at 4403 Canal Street.

The new move will involve a $6 million renovation of two existing buildings at Children’s into a new 24 bed facility. Plans still need to be formalized, but construction is slated to begin in 2020.

The development is part of a Children’s Hospital’s $250 million expansion project. Other aspects have included the $2 million Hogs House, a new behavioral health hospital, a new cancer center, an 800-car parking garage and a new 267,000 square-foot critical-care building.
