A vacant movie theater at The Esplanade Mall in Kenner will be demolished to make way for a 256-unit apartment complex, according to an announcement by the City of Kenner.

Kenner City Hall announced last week that Baton Rouge-based Clay Companies plans to build an apartment complex on the building.  The developer recently closed on the former Hollywood Cinemas 9, which had been closed since 2013.

Clay Companies has been working with the City of Kenner and plans to demolish the building in the next few weeks.

Kenner mayor Ben Zahn issued the following statement on the development: “It’s important for future businesses that may be considering The Esplanade to see this progress.”
