Waaaaaaaay back when, the Bywater was primarily agricultural land.

It attracted settlers of French, Spanish, Caribbean, Creole, African, and Native American decent. It is this deep tradition of diverse cultures that coalesced into the “Bywater” in the early 20th century.

With the completion of the Industrial Canal, the Bywater saw continued growth during the 1980s and 1990s. Long term residents of the French Quarter and surrounding bohemian artistic communities migrated downriver to escape new development and speculation in New Orleans.

The Crew Network, a real estate organization specializing in advancing the success of women in commercial real estate, is hosting a panel discussion on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 11:30AM to 1:00 PM CDT at the Bourbon House, 144 Bourbon Street, New Orleans, LA 70130 that explores the future of the Bywater.

The panel includes former Councilmember Kristin Palmer, Jackson Knowles from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and Collette Creppell, AIA, from Eskew+Dumez+Ripple. Please join us as they examine the present and future of the Bywater from a public sector, creative arts and private sector perspective.
