Jefferson Parish’s City Hall, the Joseph S. Yenni building
Jefferson Parish is planning to build a 10,000 square foot senior living center at a price tag of $4.4 million.
The parish is seeking state and federal money for the new facility, which would be located at 6640 Riverside Drive.
The parish has requested $2.5 million from the state legislature.
The parish’s $2.5 million request is pending in the state House Ways and Means Committee and needs help to be included in capital outlay legislation that pays for state and local projects.
The remainder of the financing will hopefully come in the form of an $800,000 federal Community Development Block Grant.
The project has community support, with the YMCA, People’s Health and the Jefferson Parish Council on Aging collaborating on it. If the money is secured, the parish hopes to begin construction immediately, Cervini said.
The center would be about the same size as the parish’s other facilities and offer similar activities, such as educational classes, recreation, legal services and day trips.
