Lot’s of changes afoot throughout the city and more investment finds its way in to local real estate.  Here is a brief update on some of the top zoning and land use stories around the City:

New Times-Picayune Building Owners Seek New Zoning. The group that recently purchased the former Times-Picayune headquarters for $3.5 million is requesting a new mixed-use zoning designation from the city.  The new owner, 3800 Howard Investors LLC, is made up of businessmen Joe Jaeger, Barry Kern of Mardi Gras World, and Arnold Kirschman, are asking to change the zoning from a BIP Business Industrial Park District to an MU-2 High Intensity Mixed-Use District.  More details from our friends at The Uptown Messenger.

The Mid-City Local Historic District and Parkview Local Historic District have officially been created.  Last month, the City Council voted to create the Mid-City historic District and the Parkview Local Historic District.  The Mid-City Local Historic District will be bordered by City Park Avenue, St. Louis Street, North Claiborne Avenue and Interstate 10. The Parkview Local Historic District would include areas within Moss, St. Louis and North Rocheblave streets and City Park, Esplanade and Orleans avenues.  The historical designation may incentivize tax credits to rehab historic buildings, prevent the demolish of historic buildings, and prevent certain buildings outside the character of the neighborhood.  More details from our friends at The Mid-City Messenger.

New Community Center and Car Dealership Planned for Mid-City.   The Roman Catholic Archdiocese requested a conditional use to transform a home at2914 South Carrollton Avenue and 8100 Pritchard Place into a community center.  Another property owner, 7018 Washington LLC, is petitioning the city to build a car dealership at 7108 Washington Ave. next to the Ramelli Janitorial Services building. Both requests are up for debate at the City Planning Commission meeting on Jan.10 at 1:30 p.m.  More details from our friends at The Mid-City Messenger.
