Applied Atomics, an advanced nuclear startup founded by former SpaceX engineers, is setting up its U.S. headquarters at 3333 Chartres St. in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. The company is transforming an 18,500-square-foot warehouse into a headquarters, light fabrication shop, and a Plexiplant training/demonstration system, marking an $8.2 million investment while creating dozens of high-paying jobs.

Recent updates confirm that property-level commercial real estate details and buildout plans for the site have been finalized. The transformation project involves a comprehensive interior buildout, including offices, a collaboration space, and a control room, with the training system expected to be completed in stages by the end of 2026 and fully operational by Q3 2027.

As part of its development, Applied Atomics will contribute significantly to New Orleans’ economy by reactivating an underused industrial space and providing 41 direct jobs with an annual salary averaging $121,000. Additionally, the company is expected to drive indirect employment through state estimates.

The move by Applied Atomics highlights New Orleans’ potential to attract advanced manufacturing and energy industries, offering new opportunities for the local commercial real estate market, workforce development, and industrial land use.

Those following the project will be keen to observe real estate implications, potential incentives or workforce programs applied by Louisiana Economic Development, and community engagement strategies regarding the Plexiplant demonstration, ensuring neighborhood concerns are addressed.
