Boy that was fast.  Wischermann Partners, Inc. and Jayshree Hospitality LLC, the developers of the proposed 21-story, 373-room hotels at the corner of Canal and Tchoupitoulas streets have filed a demolition permit for several properties to get the construction underway after just announcing the project three weeks ago.

The project filed the demolition permit on February 18 for the demolition of 408 Canal Street.  The application stated that the “scope of work includes re-subdividing 10 lots into one major lot of record and the proposed development of a  21 story 373 hotel building with 168 internal parking spaces.

The demolition application states that the building at 408 Canal is only 672 square feet and the demolition will only cost $10,000.

400 Canal spans the entire block from Magazine St. to Tchoupitoulas St. with approximately 220 ft of frontage on Canal St.  The current footprint for the property is approximately 49,661 square feet with approximately 130,500 square feet of existing improvements.

The developers hope to break ground on the project by the end of this year with an 18-month construction time frame and represent that the development would create more than 1,000 construction jobs, 350 full-time jobs and produce roughly $3 million in sales taxes annually.
