The New Orleans Police Department is planning a new crime lab, formally titled the Criminal Evidence & Processing Complex, at 2761 Gravier St. The NOPD’s former crime lab flooded in Katrina.
The five-story building will be in the city’s criminal justice complex, adjacent to the Criminal District Court and across from the NOPD headquarters building.
The building is slated to be built on an existing surface parking lot. The NOPD needs a zoning variance for set back requirements and is undergoing a Neighborhood Participation Process to inform the public prior to the hearing.
CDM Smith is the architect, and construction will likely take 6 months. Stay tuned for more information as it gets released.
