Developer and Tipitina’s owner RolandRoland von Kurnatowski has revealed the newest plans for his huge lakefront development, Tipitina’s South Shore Harbor Marina.
Last year, Kurnatowski signed a deal to lease and redevelop the vacant South Shore Harbor marina in New Orleans East from the Orleans Parish Non-Flood Protection Asset Management Authority. The deal requires that he spend at least $12 million on the 19 acre property.
The new plans filed with the city include the marina, a 5,000-person amphitheater and a recording studio in partnership with Berklee College of Music, an open-air market, and restaurants with views of Lake Pontchartrain and downtown.
Kurnatowski has filed the project with the City Planning Commission for a conditional use permit to allow for an outdoor music venue, a bar and retail alcohol sales. The Commission is scheduled to take up the request May 24, 2016.
The first phase of the project would include the marina, fuel dock, and a marina store, an amphitheater for live music and festivals, a promenade with shops and restaurants, and a community market.
The recording studio would be part of phase two, along with prospects for an operational WWII PT boat in partnership with the National World War II Museum.
