According to the city, since Mayor Mitch Landrieu took office, the City of New Orleans has remediated 10,000 blighted properties, which would have exceeding the goal his administration set back in September 2010!
New Orleans Redevlopment Authority Jeff Hebert, a Landrieu appointee, has been one of the most important figures in executing this plan to reduce blight and getting derelict structures back into commerce.
Check out the video below where Hebert sits down with the Center for Community Progress to discuss creating cross-agency partnerships in order to tackle blight.
“Blight is a multidimensional issue,” says Jeff Hebert, Executive Director of the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority (NORA) in the video interview.
“In a city like New Orleans, where we have several different agencies that work on these issues, bringing everybody to the same table was really the first piece of this. And then aligning everybody’s agendas around that one mission was really important,” Hebert continues. “…That’s really the directive that the Mayor gave us: that we all had to sit down and collaborate.”
