Local hotelier Warren Reuther Jr,. plans to build a new 9 story Cambria Suites hotel at 632 Tchoupitoulas Street.
Reuther submitted construction plans to the Historic Districts Landmarks Commission for approval March 25.
Plans call for a 4 story building facing Tchoupitoulas, a set back, and then a nine story tower at the back of the property facing Commerce Street. The entire project is 120,000 square feet.
The hotel will feature 166 rooms and a full service restaurant. Total project cost is estimated at $17,000,000, or $103,000/key.
Reuther has also appealed for a height waiver. He filed an appeal to the Lafayette Square/Warehouse District Refined Height Plan Interim Zoning District (IZD) to allow a new structure standing 95′ in height at its tallest point. he property is current zoned CBD-8 which, without a 30 foot set back, only allows a building height of 50 feet.
632 Tchoupitoulas is primarily an empty lot. Premium Parking has the contract to manage the lot and according to their site, the lot has enough room for 65 cars.
John T. Campo & Associates is the architect of record.
Reuther has long been involved in hospitality and hotels. He recently sold the Ambassador Hotel, down the street at 535 Tchoupitoulas, for $15.85 million to GB Lodging, LLC.
