Gallier Court is a mixed use development located at 127-129 Carondelet Street that houses eight units on floors two through four, and commercial space on the ground floor.

Vom Fass, the retailer that sells oils, liquors, wines and more, is currently under construction and on track to open in January 2015. The company plans to hire a full time chef and put on cooking demonstrations throughout the year.

The apartments are a combination of 1 bed/1 bath, 1bed/1.5 bath and 2 bed/2 bath. The largest single bedroom unit is 1,100 square feet, the smallest unit in the building is 641 square feet.

To date, developer Josh Gertler has confirmed that one of the 4th floor units has been rented.

Gallier Court has unique layouts throughout, including skylights in many units and balconies overlooking the streetcar line in others. Gertler said that he was able to get creative with the smaller building.

Gertler is an associate at Gertler Law Firm and a New Orleans-based developer.

The building was previously home to the Gertler Law Firm until this past spring.  Demolition began in April 2014 and the finishing touches are being put on at this time. The project is named after designed James Gallier.

Gertler told CSB that the response to the development has been great.  “The block that the development is in is prime for redevelopment and many are hoping that this project, along with a couple others, will help rejuvenate the block.  Also, many are excited to see new retail in the neighborhood, as well as see a historic building completely renovated.”

Gertler is currently focused on Gallier Court but will be looking to develop other mixed-use projects throughout New Orleans in the future.
