The Cambria Hotel and Suites proposed at 632 Tchoupitoulas Street has undergone some modifications as a result of the height waiver compromise reached with the city council. Originally, the proposal was for a 9 story and 4 story segment. Under the new scheme the entire building will be 7 stories.

Heres the description of the project according to permits filed with the city:

“Demolition of existing building remnant and construction of a new 7-story, 162 room, 108,831 sf hotel with full service restaurant on existing vacant lot.”

HDLC approval is still needed for the exterior elevations. Shown in the renderings below are two different versions (one with balconies and one without).Personally, I prefer the balcony version. Also, since the hotel is on some of the Mardi Gras parade routes, I would have some type of balcony over the entrance awning on the Tchoupitoulas side. The increased value for those particular rooms would be worth pursuing. Overall, it looks to be a good fit for the existing aesthetic of the Warehouse District.

Holly and Smith Architects  are designing the project.
