Plans were filed last week with the city to convert a vacant, blighted property on St. Claude Avenue into a supermarket and commercial retail building.

The filing indicates that the existing building is approximately 10,080 square feet, but that this permit is for the grocery with a pharmacy that will consist of 4,960 square feet.  The remainder of the building will consist of three other, new commercial retail spaces.

The lot is 37,000 square feet

The applicant is 5530 St. Clude, LLC, and entity controlled by Mr. Raed Alhindi, who purchased the property in 2017 for $425,000 according to city records.

Mr. Alhindi previously sought to build a gas station on the site, but was rebuffed by the city council in 2017.
